Nick and Danielle were the first couple to get engaged in season 2 of Love Is Blind, following season 1 fan favorites Cameron and Lauren, but their romance has been much shakier than the happily married couple from the first season. Nick and Danielle didn’t have any hiccups in the pods, nor did either one seem to connect with any other contestants. They only had eyes for each other and once they saw one another IRL, their love only grew stronger.
The first road block in their relationship occurred when Danielle, too hungover from the night before, stayed in the hotel in Mexico while Nick joined the rest of the cast for a mixer event. It was the first time the engaged couples saw each other face-to-face. Some drama ensued, most notably Jarrette flirting with Mallory, the woman he did not get engaged to, a result of Nick meddling by encouraging Jarrette to go talk to her. Nick was enjoying the libations, and he did not flirt with any of the women at the party, but Danielle was still jealous when he returned. They had a fight where Nick called her toxic, which is never something to say to a woman no matter the context. Still, they reconciled and flew back to Chicago together.
Back in Chicago, the couple lived together but did not stop fighting. Danielle suggested to Nick that he was distracted during the meeting of her family, which included her awesome mother Wendy, and it turned into a heated argument. As they planned for their wedding, the blow-ups did not stop. When Nick visited Danielle’s apartment, they talked about how their age gap might cause a rift due to their lifestyle differences. Danielle couldn’t promise that she wouldn’t break Nick’s table if she wanted to party with her friends, and Nick was concerned that Danielle’s Rock Band drum set and inflatable guitar that looked like it came from a low-budget bar mitzvah wouldn’t mesh with the rest of his living room decor.
Still, the couple made it to the altar. The ninth episode cut off with Nick pausing before saying either “I do” or “I don’t.” In season 1, the first couple to have a wedding ended in disaster, with Damian turning down Giannina and her running away before slipping in mud. They stayed together for years after this moment, somehow, but it doesn’t seem like Nick and Danielle, an associate marketing director, will last much longer as a couple, regardless of the outcome of their wedding.
While Nick and Danielle clearly have love for each other, Danielle’s immaturity and insecurities and Nick’s inability to respond in a mature manner to Danielle’s concerns will lead to an unhealthy relationship. Danielle may be willing to give Nick a chance, but Nick may have less patience and realize the negatives in the relationship outweigh the positives.
